NOVA Corporation Offering Scholarship Program for Navajos
NOVA Corporation, a technology company operated by the Navajo Nation is presently accepting applications for its NOVA Scholarship Endowment for Navajo collegians.
Recipients will be awarded a minimum of $500 to be applied to fall semester 2012
Applicants must be Navajo youth enrolled in college and be able to provide a certificate of Indian Blood, have at least a 2.0 GPA and be pursuing a degree in engineering, information technology, business, communications or computer science.
To complete applications, students must submit between 500 and 800 words to be considered for the scholarship.
Applicants are encouraged to list extracurricular activities and students from low-income families will be given special consideration.

Memo to Manti Citizens
Throughout the winter, Manti City informs residents if they have experienced frozen water lines or water meters in the past or if they have a new water meter installation, it may be wise to leave a small stream of water running when temperatures drop to 15 degrees or lower.
When temperatures fall below this threshold, particularly when the temperature becomes sub-zero, both water meters with a history of having freezing problems in the past and new installations, where the ground is not compacted, may freeze.

Utah Arts & Museums Announces Arts Education Grants
SALT LAKE CITY — Utah Arts & Museums is now accepting online applications for arts education grants for the 2012-13 school year. The due date for submitting applications is 5 p.m. on March 1, 2012.
There are two arts education grants. The first is for teacher-initiated projects, which provide funding for teachers to gain skills in an artistic discipline of their choice. The second is for grants to schools and school districts, which offer either an artist-in-residence, which provides schools with funds to bring an artist into a school for 40 hours of instruction, or arts education projects, which provide funds for a comprehensive project using the services of artists or artistic companies.
“Arts education grants are a valuable aid for teachers and schools who seek to provide high-quality arts learning to their students,” said Margaret Hunt, Director of Utah Arts & Museums. “We encourage schools from throughout the state to apply for this vital funding opportunity.”

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: Utah Arts & Museums invites high school teachers and students across the state to participate in Poetry Out Loud, the national poetry recitation contest. Poetry Out Loud classroom contests take place throughout the winter, and the Utah State Finals will be held on March 13. For more information, visit artsandmuseums.utah.gov.
SALT LAKE CITY — Utah Arts & Museums invites high school teachers and students across the state to participate in Poetry Out Loud, the national poetry recitation contest. Poetry Out Loud encourages youth to learn about great poetry through memorization and recitation. This program helps students master public-speaking skills, build self-confidence, and learn about their literary heritage.
Since its inception in 2006, tens of thousands of students have enjoyed competing in Poetry Out Loud. The competition was designed so teachers can easily implement this “poetry bee” in the classroom. Poetry Out Loud awards more than $100,000 in prizes to students and schools at the state and national levels, and the national winner receives a $20,000 scholarship. Utah has had three finalists in the top ten. One finalist received a $5,000 scholarship award and was contacted by noted Beat poet Lawrence Ferlinghetti to congratulate her on her recitation of his poem, I Am Waiting.
“Teachers love the program because it fits well into their literature curriculum, creates an entry point for students to appreciate poetry, strengthens community in the classroom, and reaches students whom they’ve never thought would take to poetry,” said Margaret Hunt, Director of Utah Arts & Museums.
A partnership between the National Endowment for the Arts, the Poetry Foundation, and state arts agencies nationwide, Poetry Out Loud satisfies most of the National Council for Teachers of English (NCTE) English Language Arts Standards. In addition to memorizing and performing great poems, students have the opportunity to discuss poetry and — if the teacher wishes to use the supplemental lesson plans — to write poetry of their own.
An overview of the program, classroom tools, and model recitations is available online at www.poetryoutloud.org. Teachers may contact Utah Arts & Museums to officially sign up their schools to become part of the competition. An entire school does not have to participate. The Utah Division of Arts & Museums is now accepting online applications for Arts Project Grants. The purpose of Arts Project Grants is to enable organizations and groups, whose primary mission may or may not be arts-based, to develop and provide arts-based projects to the general public. Examples of arts projects include festivals, exhibitions, concerts or other innovative public presentations that advance the arts in a community or geographic region. Grants are competitive and the deadline to submit applications is 5 p.m., September 15, 2011. There are two rounds of Arts Project Grants each year. The next deadline will be March 15, 2012.
The Division of Arts & Museums extends a particular invitation to those accustomed to applying for Folk Arts Project, Master, and Apprentice Grants. These constituents should now apply for Arts Project Grants.
Applicants may apply for up to $2,000. Arts Project Grants are competitive and matching funds are required. Some organizations that already receive funding from the Division of Arts & Museums or directly from the Utah State Legislature may not be eligible. Applicants are encouraged to go to www.artsandmuseums.utah.gov, click on “Funding” then “Grants” and then the checkbox associated with Arts Project Grants to download specific grant guidelines and requirements.

BLM Seeks Bids For New, Accessible Pasture Facilities For Wild Horses
The Bureau of Land Management is presently soliciting bids for new, publicly accessible pasture facilities in the lower 48 U.S. states to provide a free-roaming environment.
The solicitation sought concerns long-term pasture facilities which can accommodate up to 2,000 wild horses.
Each pasture facility is required to provide humane care for one year, with a renewal option available requisite with BLM standards, which can be extended nine times in one-year increments.
The solicitation period is open through Tuesday April 10 and is completely seat aside for small businesses under the North American Industry Classification System.
